USA win as Nepal’s batting wobbles

Nepal has faced a thumping defeat against the USA by 5 wickets in the practice match held on Friday. Nepal cricket team are currently in UAE preparing for the round 7 matches against the UAE in the ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Pubudu Dassanayake, Nepal’s former coach is currently in charge of the USA Cricket Team. USA won the toss and invited Nepal to bat first in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Oval-2. Sharad Vesawker led Nepal were without the service of Paras Khadka, Gyanendra Malla, Karan KC, Binod Bhandari and Shakti Gauchan. USA bowlers were all over Nepalese batsman as Nepal collapsed for mere 89 runs in 36.1 overs. Though Nepal managed to pick up 5 wickets, USA chased the target comprehensively with 165 balls to spare. || Scorecard ||

USA’s opening batsman Syed Abdullah scored a quick fire 44 runs off just 40 balls smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes. Wickets were tumbling in the other end as USA were reduced to 61/4 at one stage and Syed was caught out off Sagar Pun in the 17th over which gave Nepalese bowlers some hope as the scoreboard read 64/5. But Roy Silva and Timil Patel batting at lower middle order stirred USA to a comprehensive victory as Silva remained unbeaten at 25 runs smashing 3 sixes and Patel remained unbeaten at 7 runs. Sompal Kami picked up 2 wickets while Sagar Pun had a scalp in his name as well.

Skipper Vesawkar was dismissed for a duck

Earlier, Nepal’s openers looked decent with the bat for a brief period of time but the wickets started to tumble down as Dilip Nath was out LBW off Japen Patel in the 11th over and the opening partnershi lasted for only 29 runs. After that, wickets fell down one after other like dominos as Nepal were quickly reduced to 51/6 in the 20th over. Basanta and Bhurtel provided a bit of resistance but that didn’t last long as Bhurtel was caught out off Bhatti after scoring 10 runs of 44 balls and sooner lower order collapsed and Nepal were only able to register a total of 89 runs in 36.1 overs. Basanta Regmi top scored the run charts with 21 runs off 31 balls with 3 fours while Nath, Bhurtel and Airee were the only other players to score in double figures while Skipper Sharad was out for not.

Basanta Regmi was the top scorer for Nepal with 21 runs.

In the 2nd and the last practice match, Nepal will play against Kenya on December 3 while the round 7 matches of the ICC WCLC against the UAE will be played on 6th and 8th of December in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
