In his third match in the Global T20 Canada League, Nepali leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane delivered a brilliant bowling performance.
Representing Surrey Jaguars, Sandeep took 2 wickets for 22 runs in the team’s victory against Toronto Nationals.
In the first match of the league, Sandeep took 2 wickets against Montreal Tigers, while in the second match, he could only bowl 2 balls due to rain.
Sandeep bowled the first over in the seventh over of the second innings, conceding only 3 runs in the over.
Continuing his spell, he bowled the ninth over, giving away 12 runs. He managed to dot the first 2 balls of the over, allowed only 1 run in the second and third balls, but Colin Munro hit a six and a four in the last 2 balls.
In the eleventh over, Sandeep broke the 44-run partnership between Colin Munro and Armaan Kapoor. Kapoor was caught out by Sandeep on the second ball of the over, who scored 15 runs. He then took the crucial wicket of the aggressive batsman, Colin Munro, in the fourth ball of the over, giving Surrey the upper hand. Munro, who scored 44 off 28 balls, was bowled by Sandeep.
In the last over of his spell, the sixteenth over, Sandeep bowled brilliantly and conceded only 4 runs.
After bowling 4 overs, Sandeep finished with figures of 2 wickets for 22 runs.
Chasing the target of 142 runs set by Surrey, Toronto managed to score only 121 runs, losing 9 wickets in the stipulated 18 overs. Colin Munro top-scored with 43, while Shahid Afridi and JJ Smit contributed 23 runs each. In Surrey’s bowling attack, Matthew Forde took 4 wickets, Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets, and Spencer Johnson, Ammar Khalid, and Bernard Scholz took 1 wicket each.
Surrey Jaguars, who lost the toss and batted first, scored 141 runs for 6 wickets in the scheduled 18 overs. Jaguars captain Iftikhar Ahmed was the highest scorer with 47 runs, while Liton Das and Jatinder Singh scored 21 runs each. Toronto’s Saad Bin Zafar took 2 wickets.
Sandeep got ‘Moment of the Match’ award and received a 500-dollar prize for his outstanding performance. This is the second time Sandeep has won the award, as he also received it in the first game against the Montreal Tigers.
