Khushi Dangol, Rubi Poddar, and Puja Mahato Make Nepal Women’s Squad for ICC World T20 Asia Qualifier

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced the 14-member squad for the ICC Women’s World T20 Asia Qualifier, which is set to begin on August 31st in Malaysia.

Khushi Dangol, Rubi Poddar, and Puja Mahato have managed to secure spots in the team, captained by Rubina Chhetri, for the first time.

Khushi Dangol, hailing from Bagmati Province, is a leg-spinner, while Rubi Poddar from Sudurpaschim Province is a wicket-keeper batsman. Pooja Mahato, despite not having played domestic cricket in Nepal so far, is a fast bowler.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jyoti Pandey, left-arm spinner Kritika Marasini, and fast bowler Saraswati Chaudhary have not been included in the team. Similarly, Neri Thapa, Sabnam Rai, Roma Thapa, Kanchan Shrestha, Shristi Jaisi, and Sneha Mehra, who were undergoing closed training, also did not make the cut.

The tournament will be held in Malaysia from 31 August to 9 September, and the top 2 teams from the 11 participating teams will advance to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024.

Nepal is included in group ‘A’ along with Bahrain, Bhutan, Malaysia, Qatar, and UAE. Group ‘B’ consists of China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Myanmar, and Thailand.

The top 2 teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals, and the 2 teams that reach the finals will reach the global qualifier 2024.
