Nepal Reaches Finals of Women’s Quadrangular T20 Series Despite Loss to Malaysia

Despite losing to Malaysia in today’s (Saturday), group stage match, Nepal has managed to reach the finals. Nepal and Hong Kong are scheduled to meet in the final of the women’s quadrangular T20 international series. The final match will be held on Saturday.

At the end of the group stage matches, Nepal, Hong Kong, and Malaysia all had four points each, but Nepal and Hong Kong advanced to the finals based on run rate. All three teams won two matches in the group stage.

After losing the toss, Nepal batted first at Bayuemas Oval Cricket Ground in Kuala Lumpur. Nepal scored 83 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the match which was limited to 18 overs after the match was interrupted in the middle due to rain. Having got a new target of 85 runs, Malaysia completed it with the loss of four wickets in 16.2 overs.

Ainna Hamizah Hashim scored 37 unbeaten andMahirah Izzati Ismail scored 21 runs for Malaysia. On the bowling side, Puja Mahatto, Rubina Chhetry and Sita Rana Magar took one wicket each for Nepal.

Earlier, while batting for Nepal, captain Rubina Chhetry contributed 23 runs, Indu Barma added 20, and Kajal Shrestha chipped in with 18 runs. Other players could not make memorable contributions.

Nepal defeated Hong Kong by 6 wickets in the first match of the group stage and Kuwait by 34 runs in the second match. Similarly, Hong Kong defeated Malaysia by 10 wickets in the first match, and Malaysia defeated Kuwait by 8 wickets in the second match.

Alongside the host Malaysia, Nepal, Hong Kong, and Kuwait are participating in the women’s T20 series. Nepal is using this series as preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, which will be held in Malaysia starting from August 31st.
