Nepal’s Brave Effort Falls 23 Runs Short Against India in Asian Games Cricket

Despite a competitive game, Nepal lost to India by 23 runs in men’s cricket under the 19th Asian Games. With this defeat, Nepal has been eliminated from the quarterfinals of men’s cricket, while India has secured a spot in the semi-finals.

The match took place at the cricket ground of Jezhang Technical University, and Nepal was chasing a target of 203 runs set by the Indian team. However, Nepal could only manage to score 179 runs while losing nine wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Notably, Nepal’s total is the highest by an associate nation against India.

Dipendra Singh Airee was the highest scorer for Nepal with 32 runs, including 4 sixes off 15 balls. Kushal Malla contributed 29 runs from 22 balls, featuring 2 fours and 2 sixes, while Sundeep Jora added 29 runs from 12 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. Kushal Bhurtel scored 28 runs off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six, and Karan KC remained unbeaten with 18 runs.

In India’s bowling, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi took 3 wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets, and Sai Kishore took 1 wicket.

India won the toss and managed to score 202 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their allotted overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a century against Nepal in just 48 balls, comprising 8 fours and 7 sixes.

Despite a strong effort from other Indian batsmen, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad contributing 25 runs, Tilak Verma 2 runs, and Jitesh Sharma 5 runs, Rinku Singh scored 37 runs, and Shivam Duve added 25 runs.

Nepal’s bowling was led by Dipendra Singh Airee, who took 2 wickets, and Sompal Kami and Sandeep Lamichhane, who took one wicket each.
