Bagmati Province, under the captaincy of Sandeep Lamichhane, secured victory in the KP Oli Cup T20 cricket tournament held in Pokhara. Bagmati triumphed over the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy ‘Red’ team by 109 runs in the opening match at Pokhara Cricket Ground on Thursday.
Having lost the toss and opting to bat first, Bagmati posted a total of 184 runs, losing seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Rit Gautam emerged as the top scorer for Bagmati with 74 runs. In the bowling department, Madan Bhandari’s Biprasan KC claimed three wickets.
Pursuing a target of 185 runs for victory, Madan Bhandari struggled and was dismissed for 75 runs in 14.2 overs.
Amar Mishra and Vijay Prajapati contributed 13 runs each for Madan Bhandari, while other batsmen failed to make a significant impact.
Bagmati’s captain, Sandeep Lamichhane, played a pivotal role in limiting Madan Bhandari’s score by taking four wickets. Subas Khatri took three wickets, and Pratish GC took two wickets.
The competition, featuring 12 teams, will continue until November 15th. CPN-UML President KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the tournament.
The tournament’s winner at Pokhara Stadium will be awarded five lakhs, and the runner-up will receive two hundred and fifty thousand in cash. Additionally, the Man of the Series will be awarded Rs 30,000, while the Best Batsman and Bowler will receive Rs 20,000 each. The Man of the Match will be presented with Rs 5,000 in cash.
