Kathmandu Gurkhas, a premier franchise of Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures, has made a significant addition to its roster with the signing of Dan Douthwaite, the explosive all-rounder from Wales. Known for his powerful batting and effective bowling, Douthwaite brings a blend of energy and versatility to the squad that is expected to elevate the Gurkhas’ performance in the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2024.
Dan Douthwaite’s extensive experience in prominent English competitions, including The Hundred and the Vitality T20 Blast, adds to his credibility. In the Vitality Blast, he has played 59 matches, scoring 626 runs at an impressive strike rate of 137.28 and taking 56 wickets with a strike rate of 17.3. His experience also includes 38 First-Class and 22 List-A matches, showcasing his all-round capabilities and consistency on the field.
Reflecting on his journey, Douthwaite recalled his T20 debut in 2018 for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in a triangular series against Nepal and the Netherlands, where he made his T20 debut against the Dutch. In that series, while playing against Nepal, he took MCC’s sole wicket by catching out Nepal’s opener, Anil Shah, though Nepal won the match by nine wickets. Later that year, he debuted in List-A cricket against the West Indies ‘A’ team with Warwickshire.

With Douthwaite’s addition, the Kathmandu Gurkhas’ overseas lineup now includes Dutch opener Michael Levitt, Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus, and English domestic cricket star Stevie Sean Eskinazi. Nepal’s Karan KC will serve as the team’s marquee player, leading the squad with his experience and dedication.
During the NPL 2024 auction, Kathmandu Gurkhas further strengthened their squad by acquiring Shahab Alam, Bhim Sharki, Rashid Khan, Shankar Rana, Krishna Karki, Dipesh Kandel, Sumit Maharjan, Raju Rizal, Bibek KC, and Pratik Shrestha, each adding depth and talent to the team.
