U-19 Asia Cup: Nepal’s Semifinal Hopes End After Second Consecutive Defeat

Nepal suffered its second consecutive loss in the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE, ending their hopes of reaching the semifinals. After a 55-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the opening match, Nepal lost to Bangladesh by 5 wickets in their second game.

Chasing a target of 142 runs set by Nepal, Bangladesh reached the target in 28.4 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Zawad Abrar scored 59 runs, while Azizul Hakim contributed 52 runs for Bangladesh.

For Nepal, leg-spinner Yuvraj Khatri impressed with 4 wickets, conceding just 23 runs in 6 overs, including a maiden. Captain Hemant Dhami picked up one wicket.

Earlier, batting first after losing the toss at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Nepal were bowled out for 141 runs in 45.4 overs.

Opener Aakash Tripathi top-scored for Nepal with 43 runs, while Abhiseekh Tiwari and Uttam Magar chipped in with 29 runs each. However, the rest of the batters failed to reach double figures.

For Bangladesh, Al Fahad, Iqbal Hossain Emon and Rizan Hossan took two wickets each.

With two back-to-back losses, Nepal is now out of contention for a spot in the semifinals of the Asia Cup. They will play their final group-stage match against Afghanistan on Tuesday.
