Arjun Trophy: New Horizon Butwal & DCA Dhangadhi Wins

Day 4 of the Arjun Trophy witnessed two intense clashes, with New Horizon Butwal claiming a dominant victory, while DCA Dhangadi secured a thrilling win by just five runs against Boston Cricket Jhapa.

The first match of the day saw New Horizon Butwal putting up a strong total of 157/5 in 20 overs. Their innings was powered by a steady 45 off 44 balls from Deepak Dumre, while Arif Khan played an explosive knock of 41 off 25 balls.

Contributions from Dilip Nath (20), Pratik Shrestha (20), and Gobinda BK (19) helped push the total to a challenging score. Siddhant Shahi remained unbeaten with 3 runs off 3 balls.

For DC Baitadi, Bhuvan Karki led the bowling attack with 2 wickets for 23 runs in his 4-over spell. Rupesh Singh, Salahuddin Khan, and Khadak Bohora also chipped in with one wicket each, but they couldn’t contain the opposition’s batters.

In reply, DC Baitadi struggled to get going. They were bundled out for 106 in just 14.5 overs. Basant Khatri fought hard with 20 off 15 balls, while Himal Daulyal scored 19 runs. Sumit Badal (14) and Diwas Pun (12) showed glimpses of resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to cross double digits.

The bowling attack of New Horizon Butwal was relentless. Tul Bahadur Thapa was the star, picking up 3 wickets for just 19 runs in 3 overs. Bir Magar and Biprason KC supported well, taking 2 wickets each, while Mahesh Bhar, Nirmal Gurung, and Siddhant Shahi grabbed one wicket each.

With a disciplined performance, New Horizon Butwal secured a comprehensive 51-run victory. Tul Bahadur Thapa was named Player of the Match for his match-winning bowling spell.


In the second match, DCA Dhangadi won the toss and elected to bat first against Boston Cricket Jhapa. They managed to post a competitive total of 143/8 in 20 overs.

The highlight of the innings was a spectacular knock from Lokesh Bam, who scored a quick 57 off 36 balls. Amit Shrestha contributed 25 off 26 balls, while Milan Bohora added 18 runs.

Boston Cricket Jhapa’s bowling unit was disciplined. Roshan Shah, Abhishek Karki, and Pawan Karki each took 2 wickets, restricting Dhangadi from reaching a bigger total. Rushil Rimal picked up one wicket, but he proved expensive, conceding 40 runs in his spell.

Chasing 144, Boston Cricket Jhapa fell agonizingly short, finishing at 138/7 in 20 overs. Their innings saw multiple contributions, but none of the batters could take them across the line.

Dipu Bhujel top-scored with 28 off 23 balls, while Rohan BK played a fiery cameo of 26 off just 12 balls. Arun Airee also added 26 off 33 balls, and Ramesh Bhatt contributed 25 off 26 balls. Avinash Singh remained unbeaten on 13 runs.

The bowlers of DCA Dhangadi held their nerve in the final overs. Narayan Joshi was the pick of the bowlers, delivering a brilliant spell of 4 overs, 1 maiden, 23 runs, and 2 wickets.

Rahul Bhandari was equally effective, taking 2 wickets for just 8 runs in 2 overs. Bhojraj Bhatta added one wicket, while Lalit Rajbhandari remained wicketless but played a crucial role in keeping the pressure on.

In a nail-biting finish, DCA Dhangadi emerged victorious by just 5 runs, successfully defending their total.

The Player of the Match was Lokesh Bam for his match-winning 57 off 36 balls, proving to be the game-changer in this thrilling encounter.

The Arjun Trophy National T20 Championship continues with two thrilling matches tomorrow. CEC Kathmandu takes on New Horizon Butwal in the first game, followed by Ghodaghodi-11 Sukhad facing Boston Cricket Jhapa.

Part of the Nepal Cricket Association’s annual calendar, the tournament runs until Magh 28, promising more intense action ahead.
