Nepal Clinches Record-Breaking Win Over Kuwait in Quadrangular T20I Series

Nepal secured a record-breaking win over Kuwait, marking their second consecutive victory in the ongoing Quadrangular Twenty20 Series (Hong Kong) 2025. In Thursday’s match, Nepal defeated Kuwait by 6 wickets.

Chasing a target of 186 runs set by Kuwait, Nepal completed the chase with 7 balls to spare, losing 4 wickets in the process. This became Nepal’s highest successful T20I chase to date. Previously, their highest chase was 166 runs against Malaysia.

Opener Kushal Bhurtel played a brilliant knock of 81 runs, while Asif Sheikh contributed a solid 53 runs. The pair shared an opening partnership of 127 runs, which laid the foundation for Nepal’s victory. This partnership also set a new record for Nepal’s highest opening partnership in T20Is, surpassing the previous best of 116 runs against the Netherlands in 2021.

Dipendra Singh Airee made a significant contribution in the finishing stages, scoring 31 runs off 12 balls. For Kuwait, Yasin Patel claimed 2 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs, while Mohammad Shafeeq and Mohammad Aslam each took 1 wicket.

Kuwait, batting first after winning the toss, set a competitive target of 186 runs, finishing with 185 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Clinto Anto top-scored for Kuwait with 41 runs, while Meet Bhavasar contributed 35 runs and Bilal Tahir added 32 runs. Raviya Sandaruwan made 26 runs.

Kuwait had a strong start, scoring 97 runs within the first 10 overs, with hopes of reaching 200 runs. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and ultimately fell short of the 200-run mark.

For Nepal, Sompal Kami took 3 wickets, Nandan Yadav claimed 2, while Lalit Rajbanshi and Kushal Bhurtel each took 1 wicket.

With their second consecutive victory, Nepal has solidified their chances of advancing to the final.

In this tournament, featuring Hong Kong, Nepal, Qatar, and Kuwait, Nepal had previously defeated Qatar, while Kuwait had beaten Hong Kong on Wednesday.
