The opening match of Nepal in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier against Hong Kong was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a wet outfield caused by overnight rain.
The match was scheduled to be played on Thursday morning at the Asian Institute of Technology Ground in Thailand. However, persistent rain from the previous night left the ground unplayable, and the umpires called off the match without conducting the toss.
As a result, both Nepal and Hong Kong have shared one point each.
In the other Group A match played today, hosts Thailand registered a dominant 10-wicket win over Kuwait.
A total of nine teams are competing in the Asia Qualifier — Nepal, Thailand, Bhutan, Kuwait, Qatar, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, and the UAE — divided into three groups.
Nepal is placed in Group C alongside Bahrain and Hong Kong. Group A includes Bhutan, Kuwait, and Thailand, while Group B features Malaysia, Qatar, and UAE.
Each team plays the other two teams in its group twice. The top team from each group advances to the Super Three stage. The top two teams from Super Three will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
Nepal will face Bahrain in their next match scheduled for tomorrow.
