Nepal Cricket Eyes Major Series with Ireland, India ‘A’ : CAN President Chand

5 August 2025

Ireland’s senior national cricket team is officially set to tour Nepal. This was confirmed by CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand during an interview on the Sudurpaschim Royals’ Dugout podcast. According to Chand, Ireland’s visit follows last year’s successful tour by their ‘A’ team.

An official announcement regarding the Ireland-Nepal series is expected to be made soon. This will be a major boost for Nepali cricket as it hosts a full-member side in home conditions.

Chand also highlighted Nepal’s growing relationship with the Indian cricket board (BCCI). He revealed that a draft MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been prepared between CAN and BCCI, aimed at long-term cooperation.

As part of that partnership, Nepal is expected to face India ‘A’ in upcoming matches. “We will definitely play against India A,” Chand confirmed.

In addition to Ireland and India, discussions are ongoing with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for potential bilateral series. Chand stated that while talks have been positive, nothing is officially finalized yet.

Afghanistan has also extended an invitation to host Nepal in Kabul. However, logistical challenges have prevented the tour from happening so far.

Nepali women’s cricket is also gaining momentum. Nepal will host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in January 2026. The tournament will be a major milestone, and preparations are already underway.

CAN is also in talks to organize international matches for the women’s team to boost their readiness for the global qualifier.

Chand took a moment to praise CAN Secretary Paras Khadka, calling him “Nepal’s most successful player and captain.” He added that Paras’s involvement in the board has been crucial, and the team is working well together.

With multiple international fixtures in the pipeline and stronger ties with top cricketing nations, Nepal’s cricket future looks brighter than ever.
