Rohit Paudel’s second ODI century goes in vain as Nepal lose to UAE

In the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI series, Nepal faced defeat against the UAE in their second match. The game, held on Thursday, saw the UAE beat Nepal by 5 wickets.

Chasing a target of 234 runs, the UAE reached the total in 43.3 overs, losing 5 wickets. For the UAE, opener Aryansh Sharma played a brilliant knock of 98 runs, while Alishan Sharafu scored 45 and Muhammad Waseem contributed 26 runs.

For Nepal, Sandeep Lamichhane bowled impressively, taking 2 wickets for 34 runs in his 10 overs. Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee took one wicket each.

Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal were bowled out for 233 runs in 50 overs, led by captain Rohit Paudel’s century. Rohit scored 109 runs off 130 balls, his second ODI hundred. Aasif Sheikh made 35, Aarif Sheikh scored 27, and Dipendra Singh Airee added 23 runs.

For the UAE, Zahid Ali was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets for 41 runs in 6 overs. Junaid Siddique claimed 3 wickets for 54 runs in 10 overs, while Muhammad Rohid and Haider Ali took one wicket each.

This was Nepal’s second consecutive defeat in the series, following their 106-run loss to the USA in the opening match.

Rohit Paudel creates history with his second ODI century

Rohit Paudel has become the only Nepali batsman to score two centuries in One Day Internationals. His knock of 109 runs against the UAE marked his second ODI hundred. This was the ninth ODI century ever scored by a Nepali batsman and the second ODI hundred by a Nepali player against the UAE.

Rohit also became only the second Nepali batsman, after Paras Khadka, to score an ODI century outside Nepal. Interestingly, both Rohit and Paras achieved their hundreds at the same venue — the ICCA Ground in Dubai. All other ODI centuries for Nepal have been scored at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
