Nepal registered their second consecutive victory in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifier.
In the match held on Friday evening, Nepal defeated Japan by 5 wickets.
Chasing a target of 132 runs, Nepal reached the mark with 2 overs to spare, losing 5 wickets.
Aasif Sheikh top-scored with 38 runs, while Gulshan Jha (28*) and Dipendra Singh Airee (14*) remained unbeaten.
Kushal Bhurtel scored 21 and captain Rohit Paudel made 18 runs.
At one stage, Nepal stumbled to 90 for 5, but a composed partnership between Gulshan and Dipendra guided the team to victory.
For Japan, Shoma Slater took 2 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs, while Reo Sakurano-Thomas, Sabaorish Ravichandran, and Declan Suzuki Mccomb claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Japan scored 131/8 in their 20 overs.
Captain Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming top-scored with 60 runs, while Esam Rahman made 31.
The duo added an 86-run stand for the second wicket after Japan lost their first wicket at 11 runs.
After Rahman’s dismissal, Fleming was also dismissed four balls later, with Japan’s score at 99/3.
Nepal then took wickets at regular intervals, restricting Japan to 131, with Benjamin Ito-Davis adding 17 runs at the end.
For Nepal, Gulshan Jha and Sandeep Lamichhane picked up 2 wickets each, conceding 20 and 25 runs respectively, while Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav took one wicket apiece.
With this win, Nepal will carry 2 points into the Super Six stage, while both teams had already secured qualification for it.
