It’s official—Cricket will return to the Olympic stage at Los Angeles 2028, ending a wait of 128 years.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that the T20 format will be included for both men’s and women’s events.
The competition will be held from Asar 28 to Shrawan 13, 2085 (July 12–29, 2028).
The women’s medal match will be played on Shrawan 5, 2085 (July 20), and the men’s final on Shrawan 13, 2085 (July 29).
There will be six teams in each category, with 15-player squads per team, totaling 90 athletes per gender.
All matches will take place at the Pomona Fairgrounds, around 50 km from downtown Los Angeles.
Most matchdays will feature double-headers. Matches are set to start at 9:45 PM NST and 7:15 AM NST, making it accessible for Nepali and South Asian fans.
Cricket was last played in the 1900 Paris Olympics, where Great Britain defeated France in the only match.
The qualification system is yet to be finalized. Discussions are ongoing at the ICC Annual Conference in Singapore, which began on Shrawan 2, 2082 (18 July, 2024).
Cricket joins five other sports for LA 2028: baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), squash, and cricket (T20).
Recently, cricket featured in Asian Games (2010, 2014, 2023) and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where Australia won gold in the women’s final.
