International Cricket Council (ICC) has sanctioned the Nepal T20, which will be organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). It will be the first edition of Nepal T20– CAN’s only official T20 league. CAN informed the news via their press release. The first season of Nepal T20 has been scheduled for September 24 to October 22. All the matches will be played on T.U Ground.
CAN hopes that the tournament will help in the significant development of cricket in the country. The tournament has been seen as the dream project of CAN and expects to benefit the domestic player. CAN has already sold all the rights to Indian Company Seven3sports. The Indian Company will also remain a strategic and commercial partner. They have been selected after thorough due diligence and detailed background check according to CAN. As per the signed contract, CAN will receive over 412 million yearly.
The Six-team tournament will be played on the basis of a double Round Robin. The Teams are picked on the basis of major cities: Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Lumbini or Lumbini, and Far western. The number of teams is expected to be increased next year.
The Players have been divided into three categories where players from Category ‘A’ gets Rs 15 lakhs, similarly, players from category ‘B’ and ‘C’ will receive 10 lakhs and 5 lakhs respectively.
With Economic restrictions already lifted (by ICC) last month and the introduction of NepalT20, fans will hope the pace of development will now go rapid.
