Nepal defeats Hong Kong by 9 wickets in ICC U19 Men’s CWC Asia Division 1 Qualifier 2023

Nepal won the match against Hong Kong in the ICC U19 Men’s CWC Asia Division 1 Qualifier 2023, registering a victory over Hong Kong by 9 wickets with 27 overs left in the qualifying tournament that began on Friday in Ajman, UAE.

 

Nepal easily chased the target, with 1 wicket lost in 22.1 overs. Aakash Tripathi was the top scorer for Nepal, scoring 64 off 72 balls with not out, and Uttam Magar scored 50 runs in 39 balls.

 

Danny Mapp took 1 wicket for Hong Kong. Hong Kong conceded 7 extra runs with only 1 wide.

 

Before that again, Nepal won the toss and elected to bowl first. Hong Kong only managed to score 120 runs in 46.3 overs and lost all their wickets. Parth Bhagwat was the top scorer for Hong Kong, scoring 36 runs off 93 balls, while Aliyaan Zahir Mohammad scored 29 runs in 67 balls.

 

Hemanta Dhami took 3 wickets, while Subash Bhandari and Aakash Chand took 2 wickets each. The Nepali bowlers gave away 6 extras, which included 2 wides.

 

 

Nepal is now in second place on the points table, behind the UAE. Nepal’s upcoming schedule in the qualifying tournament includes matches against Malaysia on February 28 before facing the host nation, UAE, in their final match on March 2.

The tournament features six teams, including the host UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, and Nepal.

 

The table topper in the tournament, which will continue until March 2, will earn a qualification spot for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup set to take place in Sri Lanka in 2024.
