Pokhara Avengers have signed West Indies fast bowler Anderson Phillip for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL). Phillip becomes the third international player in the squad, following previous signings of American cricketer Andries Gous and Netherlands’ Bas de Leede.
The 28-year-old Trinidadian has represented the West Indies in 2 Test matches and 5 ODIs. He made his Test debut in 2022 against Bangladesh and his ODI debut in 2021 against Sri Lanka. Known for his impressive bowling speed, averaging around 140 km/h, Phillip expressed his excitement to play for Pokhara Avengers in the NPL.
Pokhara Avengers, with Nepal national team opener Kushal Bhurtel as the marquee player, are looking strong. After signing Phillip, the team’s chairman Subodh Tripathi shared his confidence in the squad’s strength. Managing Director Manobal Shrestha also emphasized their strategy of recruiting strong international players to make the team highly competitive.
In addition to the international players, Pokhara Avengers selected Sagar Dhakal, Aakash Chand, Kiran Kumar Thagunna, Narayan Joshi, Bipin Khatri, Dilip Nath, Trit Raj Das, Sunam Gautam, Dinesh Kharel, and Amrit Gurung during the auction.
The NPL will be held from November 30 to December 20.
