Nepali Star Leg Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has left for Canada to participate in the Global T20 Canada, which starts on July 20th.
Although Sandeep reached the West Indies to play in the Caribbean Premier League in August last year, he had to leave the league in the middle after being accused of rape. Since playing in the Big Bash League in January last year, he has not participated in any international T20 league matches.
The Nepalese leg-spinner is representing Surrey Jaguars in the league. The Jaguars will play their first game on Saturday, July 22nd against the Montreal Tigers. Another Nepali cricketer, Dipendra Airee, is also involved with the Montreal Tigers.
Sandeep and Dipendra were not included in the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup squad currently in Sri Lanka, as they will be leaving to play in the Global T20 League.
Sandeep’s team includes cricketers like Ben Cutting, Alex Hales, Litton Das, Mohammad Haris, and Iftikhar Ahmed.
Sandeep represented Montreal Tigers and Toronto Nationals in the first and second editions of the Global T20 League in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The league was subsequently unable to be organized due to various reasons. Now, as the league resumes, Sandeep is going to participate in the third season in a row.
Dipendra Airee, another Nepalese cricketer, will be playing in an international league for the first time. Dave Whatmore, the coach of Montreal Tigers and former coach of the Nepali cricket team, played an important role in getting Dipendra into the team.
Dipendra’s team, Montreal Tigers, consists of players such as Shakib Al Hasan, Carlos Brathwaite, Andre Russell, Chris Lynn, Zahir Khan, and Sherfane Rutherford.
