Nepali leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane shone brightly in the Global T20 Canada League during a match against the Mississauga Panthers on Wednesday night, earning him the well-deserved “Player of the Match” award. This marks the first time he has received this honor in the league’s third season.
Sandeep, who won the prize money of one thousand dollars, took 3 wickets with only 6 runs in the match.
While he had performed admirably in previous seasons, he hadn’t secured the “Player of the Match” award until now. However, this season, he managed to win the “Moment of the Match” award twice, bagging five hundred dollars each time.
In the current season, representing Surrey Jaguars Sandeep has taken a total of 10 wickets in six matches, making him the joint third-highest wicket-taker alongside Ruben Trumpelman, behind Logan Van Wyk and Matthew Ford. Remarkably, his economy rate stands at an impressive 4.96 runs per over, with an average of 9.10 and a strike rate of 11.0.
Notably, Sandeep holds the record for the highest number of wickets in the history of the Global T20 Canada League. During the third season, he accumulated a total of 23 wickets, including 8 wickets for the Montreal Tigers in the 2018 season and 5 wickets for the Toronto Nationals in 2019.
