IPL : Vettori takes over as Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach after Lara’s sacking

Sunrisers Hyderabad have appointed former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori as their new head coach for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Vettori, who previously coached Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) between 2014 and 2018, replaces Brian Lara, who was sacked after just one season in charge.

Lara’s tenure was a disaster, with Sunrisers finishing last in the IPL 2023 season with just four wins from 14 matches. The team’s batting and bowling were both inconsistent, and Lara himself struggled with the demands of the role.

Vettori, on the other hand, has a proven track record of success in the IPL. He led RCB to the playoffs in 2015 and the final in 2016, and he is also the current assistant coach of the Australia men’s team. He is expected to bring a more structured and disciplined approach to Sunrisers, and he will be hoping to guide them back to the top of the IPL in 2024.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Head Coaches:

Tom Moody: 2013-19
Trevor Bayliss: 2020-2021
Tom Moody: 2022
Brian Lara: 2023

It is still unknown whether Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralitharan will continue as Sunrisers’ bowling coach and spin-bowling coach respectively in the 2024 season. However, Vettori is likely to bring in his own team of coaches, and it will be interesting to see who he appoints.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2023 season, and the appointment of Vettori is a positive step in that direction. He is a proven coach with a wealth of experience, and he is sure to bring a winning mentality to the team.
