Nepal off to a losing start

Nepali women’s team made a losing start to their ACC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier – Asia campaign as they were convincingly beaten by the hosts Hong Kong in the opening day of the tournament. (See Full Scorecard)

Nepal won the toss and opted to bat first on the second match of the day but were unable to post a decent total to challange the hosts as they were shut out for mere 77 runs in 19.2 overs. Nirmala Shahi top-scored for the visitors with 18 while Rubina Chettri (12) and Rashmi Sharma (11) were the only other double-digit contributers for Nepal.

Chasing an easy target, Hong Kong cruised towards the victory with six wickets and 21 balls to spare. Opening batter Sze Wan Yip guided her team towards the victort with a well constructed 33 while Yasmin Daswani made 13 to help the team stay in the control of the match. Mariko Hill and Shanzeen Shahzad eventually finished off any hopes for Nepal as they led the host towards the victory with unbeaten 10 and 11 respectively.

Earlier in the day, favourites Thailand beat China by 75 runs to make a commanding start to the tournament and are at the top positon of the points table.

Nepali will take on Thailands tomorrow in its second match.
