Rajbiraj 17 August – Mehaboob Alam and Aarif Seikh continued their good run in the tournament to help Chiitiz College win the Inter College Cricket Tournament here in Raj Rangashala as they as defeated GNIT by a single wicket in a thrilling final.
Having won the toss, GNIT won the toss and opted to bat first in front of a decent Saturday crowd. However they could not make much out of it as they crumbled to 106 all out in mere 18.2 overs, Surendra Yadav (37) and Rakesh Kamait (26) were the only doublde-digit scorers for the team. Chhitiz College’s brilliant bowling performance was led by Rohit Singh with 3 wickets while Pushpa Thapa and Aarif Seikh claimed 2 wickets. National team veteran Mehaboob Alam chipped in with a wicket.
Despite chasing a seemingly easy target, Chhitiz College made a tough job out of it as they barely crossed the line with a single wicket and a over in hand. Mehabbob Alam and Minash Thapa top-scored with 24 each while AArif Seikh made a handy contribution of 12 lower down the order. Former U19 national team player Dipendra Airee and Upendra Ray starred for the GNIT with 3 wickets each while Siddhant Lohani, known more for his exciting batting, chipped in with a wicket to his name.
Rohit Singh was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling. He was also the deserved winner of the Best Bowler Trophy. GNIT’s top scorer of the final Surendra Yadav was awarded the Best Batsman while Rohan Vishwakarma recieved the Emerging Player award, Multiple national and international record holder Mehboob Alam was recognized for his brilliant all-round performances throughout the week with a Man of the Series award.
