DPL: Dhangadi and kathmandu to play in the opening match

Dhangadi Premier League’s match schedule for the second season has been published, which is set to kick off from 17th Chaitra with a match between Team Chauraha Dhangadi and Kathmandu Goldens. The opening match will start from 1:00 PM.

Two matches will be played each day of the tournament bar the opening day where the first match will start from 9 AM and second from 1 PM. All the teams will face one another in the group stage, from which 4 teams will be selected for the qualifiers and eliminators. The first and second placed team in group stage will play the qualifiers from which the winner will qualify for the final. The loser of qualifier will play against the winner of eliminator i.e. third and fourth placed team. The winner of the match will also reach the final.

In the second edition of DPL, 6 teams are set to take part. 5 teams from the first edition will take part while Kanchanpur Iconics will be replaced by Mahendranagar United.

Basant Regmi, Karan KC, Sagar Pun and Aarif Sheikh were the most expensive players in the auction held for DPL. Regmi was purchased by Biratnagar Kings, Karan KC & Aarif Sheikh by Mahendranagar United and Sagar pun by Rupandehi Challengers. They were snapped by their respective teams for a sum of 150000 from category A.

Biratnagar Kings skipper Sharad Vesawkar is set to miss the tournament with personal issues. Paras khadka has been preferred as the strategic player for Biratnagar Kings while Sompal Kami will replace Khadka as strategic player for Team Chauraha Dhangadi.

National team middle order batsman, Dipendra Singh Airee will captain CYC Attariya which was captained by Gyanendra Malla in the first edition of DPL. Similarly, Binod Bhandari who captained Kanchanpur Iconic last season will captain new entrant Mahendranagar United this season.

The winner of the tournament will be prized with 25 lakh cash which is the most among domestic tournaments in Nepal. Likewise, the runner up will get 10 lakhs, second runner up 3 lakhs and fourth placed team 2 lakhs. The best player of the tournament will be rewarded with 180 CC TVS Apache motor bike. The Player of the match of each match will receive 10000 cash prize too.
