PM Cup Day 5: Tribhuvan Army Edge Province 2 in rain intervened match

Tribhuvan Army Club edged province no. 2 by 55 runs (D/L) in the fifth day of Prime Minister cup.

Batting first, winning the toss, TAC posted a modest 244 runs in 49.3 over before rain intervened. They lost Sagar Pun (8) early on, who was bowled out by Divyanshu Mallick in the fourth over. Later Divyanshu went on to pick 3 wickets in the innings.

Anil Mandal and Binod Bhandari played a short partnership for the second wicket. Binod’s diminutive innings of 23 runs came in 16 balls with 4 fours and a six. He was dismissed by Rashaid Khan. Then came Raju Rijal who made a fine knock of 50 runs. His innings came in 85 balls courtesy of 5 fours and a six. He shared a 55 runs partnership with Mandal, who went on to make 35 runs.

Later towards the innings end, Rajesh Pulami Magar made 40 and Sompal Kami also added 41 from 28 balls to post 244 at the close of first innings. Divyanshu snatched 3 while Rashaid Khan, Mehaboob Alam and Samsad Sheikh took 2 wickets each.

Rain intervened and the match was shortened to 40 over’s with a revised target of 238 runs. The revised target means province 2 had to get almost 6 an over to reach the target. But it was not meant to be so as they could only manage 182 losing 9 wickets. Sompal Kami shone with the ball dismissing 3 key batsman in Kamal Singh Airee (0) , Mehaboob Alam (9)and Sanjam Regmi (0).

Despite Suraj Patel’s fighting knock of 48 towards the end of innings, they failed to reach the target by 55 runs. Medium Pacer Sompal Kami was declared the player of the match.
