Nepal’s U19 team has made a promising start in the World Cup qualifiers, securing a victory over Singapore

Nepal made a promising start in the ICC U19 Men’s CWC Asia Division 1 Qualifier 2023, registering a big victory over Singapore by a margin of 96 runs in the qualifying tournament that began on Friday in Ajman, UAE.

 

Nepal give a target of 262 runs but Singapore could only manage to score 165 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Aaryan Modi was the top scorer for Singapore, scoring 58 off 100 balls, and Sidhanth Srikanth scored 44 runs in 80 balls.

Hemanta Dhami and Subash Bhandari both took 2 wickets each for Nepal, while Bishal Bikram KC took 1 wicket. Nepal conceded 17 extra runs with 15 wides.

 

Before that Nepal won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a target of 262 runs in the 50 overs. Aakash Tirpathi was the top scorer for Nepal, scoring 78 off 100 balls, while Bishal Bikram KC scored 63 runs in 54 balls with not out.

 

Aryaveer Chaudhary and Abhuday Chhajer both took 2 wickets each for Singapore, while Adwitya Bhargava and Mahiyu Bhatia took 1 wicket each. Singapore concede a 14 extra run with 10 wide.

In the death overs, Nepal scored 70 runs, losing 3 wickets.

 

Aakash Tirpathi was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding unbeaten knock of 78 runs and 1 catch.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nepal’s upcoming schedule in the qualifying tournament includes matches against Kuwait on February 25, Hong Kong on February 27, and Malaysia on February 28 before facing the host nation, UAE, in their final match on March 2.

 

The tournament features six teams, including the host UAE, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, and Nepal.

 

The table topper in the tournament, which will continue until March 2, will earn a qualification spot for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup set to take place in Sri Lanka in 2024.
