Nepal Secures ODI Status by Winning Match Against UAE by 177 Runs

Nepal won the match against UAE in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 at the TU Cricket Ground (Nepal), registering a big victory over UAE by 177 runs.

In the UAE batting inning, UAE has no chance to get back into the game. This is the lowest score in UAE ODI history.

 

UAE were only able to score 71 runs with 10 wickets lost in 22.5 overs. 17-year-old Aayan Afzal Khan was the top scorer for UAE, scoring 29 off 33 balls, and Ashwanth Valthapa scored 14 runs in 22 balls.

 

In the first over, UAE lost the first wicket, and then they continually lost wickets.

 

Lalit Rajbanshi took a five-wicket haul, while Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets for Nepal. Nepal conceded only 1 extra run with 0 wide.

 

This is the first five-wicket haul for off-spinner Lalit Rajbanshi.

 

Before that, Nepal won the toss and elected to bat first. Nepal managed to score 248 runs in 49.2 overs and lost all 10 wickets. Captain Rohit Paudel was the top scorer for Nepal, scoring 77 off 112 balls, and Aarif Sheikh scored 43 runs in 52 balls.

 

At one point, Nepal lost the 3 wickets and scored only 22 runs. The captain, Rohit Paudel, played a responsible knock.

 

UAE bowlers Aayan Khan, Zawar Farid, Rohan Mustafa, and Zahoor Khan took 2 wickets each. The UAE bowlers gave away 7 extras, which included 5 wides.

The Man of the Match award was presented to Rohit Paudel for his outstanding knock of 112 runs off 112 balls and 2 crucial runs out.

 

Now Nepal has secured ODI status. While UAE needs to win the remaining 2 games to secure the ODI status, if Nepal wins all 2 remaining matches, Nepal will play the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier at Zimbabwe in June this year.
