Nepal Claims Victory Against PNG by 52 Runs, Requires 3 More Wins to Secure ICC World Cup Qualifier Spot

Nepal won the match against PNG in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 at the TU Cricket Ground (Nepal), registering a victory over PNG by 52 runs.

At one point, PNG scored 76 runs without losing a wicket, then lost wickets continually.

PNG was only able to manage 245 runs with 10 wickets lost in 47.1 overs. Norman Vanua was the top scorer for PNG, scoring 60 off 55 balls, and opener Tony Ura scored 50 runs in 44 balls.

Nepal missed its third chance to take the last wicket of Norman Vanua. Until the 47th over, PNG had only hope in Norman Vanua, but he ran out while he was trying to take quick 2 runs.

Sandeep Lamichhane took 4 wickets, while Dipendra Singh Airee took 2 wickets for Nepal. Nepal conceded 15 extra runs with 10 wides.

 

Before that, PNG won the toss and elected to bowl first. Nepal managed to score 297 runs in 49.1 overs and lost all 10 wickets. Aasif Sheikh was the top scorer for Nepal, scoring 110 off 110 balls, and Kushal Bhurtel scored 45 runs in 56 balls.

 

This was the highest score for Nepal in ODIs. after the 4 80+ runs finally Aasif sheikh scored first career ODI hundred.   PNG fielder missed the 3 easy catches of Aasif Sheikh.

 

 

PNG bowler Semo Kamea took a five-wicket haul, while Riley Hekure took three wickets. The PNG bowlers gave away 14 extras, which included 10 wides.

The Man of the Match award was presented to Aasif Sheikh for his outstanding knock of 110 runs off 110 balls and two crucial runs out.

 

Now Nepal needs one more win to secure ODI status. If Nepal wins all three remaining matches, it will play in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.
