Nepali women’s national team displayed a much improved performance from the earlier day and at some points had the upper hand in the match but eventually lost by 3 wickets to Thailand to suffer their second defeat in as many days. (Full Scorecard)
Batting first upon winning the toss, Nepali batters were once again unable to post a daunting total in the board as the team posted 76 runs in their entire quota of 20 overs, Despite chasing a below-par trouble Thailand were reduced to 22 for 5 and subsequently to 51 for 7 but Nepal was unable to deliver a killer blow as Thailand lower order batters Chandina Sutthiruang (23*) and Wongpaka Liengprasert (10*) ensured a hard-fought victory.
Nirmala Shahi had an outstanding day for Nepal as she performed with both bat and ball for her side. Her knock of 36 runs which included 4 fours was the major contributor in an otherwise hapless batting performance from Nepal. Likewise, she also picked up 3 wickets in her 4-overs spell which also included 2 maidens. Sarita Magar took 2 wickets while skipper Rubina Chhetri chipped in with one for her side.
Earlier, none of the batters except Shahi made it into the double figures with as many as four of them dismissed by run-outs.
In the other match of the day, hosts Hong Kong defeated China by 40 runs to stay undefeated in the tournament along with Thailand and share the top two positions in point table. Nepal will take on China tomorrow.
