Kantipur Gurkhas 125 for 3 in 15 0vers (Airee 55 Khakurel 35 Vishwakarma 3-30) beat Sagarmatha Legends 124 for 9 (Extras 24 Alam 23 Dhamala 21 Regmi 3-12)by seven wickets Full Scorecard
One-time opening pair of Nepal National team, Subash Khakurel and Pradeep Airee smashed Sagarmatha Legends’ bowlers all round the park in an brilliant opening stand of 81 in their route to a comfortable 7 wickets victory.
Upon being asked to bat first, Legends actually got off to a good start courtesy some wides from Gurkhas’ bowlers and a couple of well-timed strokes. Sandeep Sunar got off the mark with a majestic six while Dhamala too cleared one all the way. The joy was shortlived for the batting side as the left arm spinning duo of Lalit Rajbanshi and captain Basant Regmi started running through the batting line up. Veteran allrounder Mehboob and tail ender Bikram Sob were the only ones to show some resistance as they scored 23 and 14 respectively. Captain Binod Bhandari hit a six but was soon dismissed for 11. It was all because of 24 extras conceded by Gurkhas’ that took Legends’ total to 124.
Chasing a below par total on the condition much suited for batting, Gurkhas’ opening pair struck 13 fours and 2 sixes between them to completely shut out any hopes for Legends. Rahul Vishwakarama claimed three wickets but it too little too late as it was all gained after an attacking opening stand. Gurkhas’ cruised to the victory with 5 overs to spare.
After a washout yesterday, Gurkhas now have 3 points from 2 matches and are at the top of the standings while Legends are yet to open their accounts in points table.
Sagarmatha Legends will take on Vishal Warriors tommorrow while Gurkhas will meet Jagdamba Rhinos the day after.
