Monty Desai arrives in Nepal as batting consultant for U-19 Cricket Team.

Monty Desai, former IPL coach arrived in Kathmandu on Monday to train Nepal U-19 team for upcoming ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament to be held in Malaysia from 10th of September.

ACC U-19 Eastern Region cricket tournament will include eight teams including Nepal, Singapore, Thailand and Bhutan in Group ‘A’ and Malaysia, Hong Kong, China and Myanmar in Group ‘B’. Winners will get to play ACC U-19 Asia Cup going to be held in Malaysia in November this year.

Who is Monty Desai?

Monty was former coach and one of the main scouts of Rajasthan Royals for 8 years before the team was suspended. Later, he joined Gujarat Lions as performance coach.

He has completed level 3 coaching course and has also worked with various County Cricket teams in England.

Earlier in 2012, Monty invited Shakti Gauchan for a trial at Rajasthan Royals. In the same year, he provided batting enhancement opportunity to Prithu Baskota and Pradeep Airee in India for one year. He also invited Bhuwan Karki for trial at Rajasthan Royals in 2013.

He has worked previously with the Nepal senior national side for ICC World Twenty 20 Qualifiers.

Asian Cricket Council will bear all the expenses of Monty’s trip to Nepal.
